Our Time Together: January 2025 Edition

MANSAG Newsletter January 2025 Edition, MANSAG President’s Monthly Newsletter

Our time together….

Dear Member,

On behalf of the National Executive Committee, the National Committee Chairs, and the Regional Chairs of MANSAG I wish you and all your loved ones a blessed, prosperous, and happy new year! It was heartwarming to witness and also be part of the end of year celebrations amongst our membership throughout the country from Scotland to the West Country. I hope that despite the freezing weather, you and your loved ones were wrapped in the warmth of the festive cheer and goodwill that was shared by all at the end of 2024.

MANSAG has a number of exciting programmes and initiatives planned for the new year. During the holiday season, we have put together a diary of activities that members may find useful throughout the year. These events led by eminent Nigerian Healthcare professionals will be available to all members. They include specialty educational portfolio development sessions, mentorship and reverse mentorship sessions, interview skills sessions, wellbeing and yoga sessions and wealth management sessions amongst others. Regional Chairs have also designed in person events for members to maximise networking opportunities. MANSAG will endeavour to become a CPD Certification awarding institution so that these activities will count towards your appraisals and professional development.

As I advised in the last newsletter, we have been exploring ways to ensure that members have easy access to their details within MANSAG. We are actively discussing with vendors how we can update our website to facilitate this. In the meantime, we provided all our members with a unique  8-digit identification number. As we progress through our digitisation programme, your unique number will be your access code to your MANSAG Portfolio, the resources, and the advantages of your membership. We will be shortly writing to each individual member to advise them of their membership number.

We also want to understand the needs of our membership better to ensure that our services and resources we provide are tailored to your requirements. We have designed a short questionnaire that will give us essential information about the profile of our members. The link to the questionnaire is enclosed;

It takes less than 1 minute to complete and will provide really useful information about you and all our members. Please do not delay sending in this information.

Our first event in 2025 is the MANSAG Town Hall Meeting scheduled for Saturday 18 Jan 2025. This is a new event to share the plans of our association directly with our members and to get their input in to the current and future plans of MANSAG. The Town Hall meeting will enable members to engage directly with the National Executive Committee, the Chair of National Committees and the ten regional MANSAG chairs, and to inform and influence the future direction of our organisation. Please register here to attend and participate fully in the Town Hall. It is free.

The first in our series of Leadership Academy virtual sessions for 2025 will hold on Saturday 29 March. It is always a really important fixture in our annual diary of events as we hear from industry leaders on how they shape our healthcare environment despite current financial, environmental, sociological, and political challenges. We can learn from the insights they give us as we contemplate our own practice and careers. Please contact Professor Rotimi Jaiyesimi  at leadershipacademy@mansag.org if you would like to be part of the Academy developing our future healthcare leaders.

The Education Committee led by Dr. Olayinka Kowobari is actively planning our Leeds Education and Research Spring Conference themed, Leadership in Education and Research. The programme will be very different this year – rich, varied, exciting, inclusive, and insightful. We have some really important headline speakers like the Nigerian Lord Mayor of Leeds, Her Worshipful, Abigail Marshall Katung, Professor Charles Egbu, the Vice Chancellor of Leeds Trinity University who will deliver a plenary talk on Leadership in Education and Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, Assistant Director General WHO Geneva who will take a Masterclass on Leadership in Healthcare. Our Spring Conference will hold on Saturday 3 May 2025 and will be rounded off with a delightful annual Charity Ball. Please do not miss key conference.

2025 is destined to be a really busy year for MANSAG as we understand the profile of each of our members and design and tailor our programmes around your individual needs, grow our regional chapters, deliver vital  professional development programmes for our members, nurture key strategic partners with the GMC, UK Royal Colleges, and the UK Government to enhance the work of our members in the UK and work with the Nigerian Government to contribute our knowledge and expertise towards developing healthcare services in  our home country, Nigeria.

It is an exciting prospect, and I invite you to support the work of our organisation in any way you feel able to.

Until next time, remain blessed.

Jide,
Dr. Jide Menakaya
