Dear Mansagians,
As UK enjoys a warm summer solstice and plans are being made for several chapter barbecues in the coming weeks, we are reminded daily that national weather records are being broken every day. You, like me, may have endured a very warm June, warmer than the highest June temperature UK has ever experienced since records began.
I am delighted to share that MANSAG is also breaking records. We now have our highest number of subscribed members ever, we have our highest number of members that are clinical students registered in our MANSAG Basic membership category, our highest number of attendees to our series of recent webinars on leadership and maternal & child health organised by the Leadership Academy and Diaspora Engagement Committee. We also had our highest number of applicants for the 2026 Education Travel Grant Award. There has been lots of record-breaking moments for MANSAG that we should all be so proud of as members.
Our growth as an organisation was explored in detail at the first ever Leadership Development Away Day for members across MANSAG that have volunteered to take on leadership roles. The whole day event included a record breaking 22 clinical students, residents, consultants, non-medical members, clinical directors, medical directors, chief executives and Royal College Council members. These leaders brought their varied wisdom, experience, expertise and passion to bear on what makes MANSAG at our best, what our dreams are for MANSAG and what our road map would be to achieve our dreams. We also had a session with the National Director of GMC Outreach Team to explore with us, how we can support doctors of Nigerian heritage that are transitioning to the cultural reality of working in the UK.

This was an opportunity for the leadership team and others to come together in one place, for some, meet each other for the first time, to focus our thoughts and energies on addressing the challenges our organisation faces. Together we could articulate our strengths as an organisation, consider honestly our aspirations for MANSAG and crucially, how we can get there. Perhaps as a Mansagian, you can also share your thoughts and aspirations for MANSAG and how we can get there. Please email me at president@mansag.org with your ideas.

And finally,
The Diaspora Health Impact Initiative  (DHII) 2026 has already begun with the outreach programme carried out by our American colleagues in April this year in South East Nigeria. This July, MANSAG will be delivering  a unique programme, SIMBEGIN, to train instructors in Northwest  Nigeria on how to carry out quality facilitated high frequency low fidelity (HFLF) simulation programmes. Doing this well and scaling it across the country has the potential to break new records; building capacity of healthcare professionals in Nigeria, reducing excessive maternal and neonatal deaths in Nigeria and more importantly raising the quality of healthcare delivered in Nigeria. As a Mansagian, you can play your part in this record-breaking movement. Please get in touch with me at info@mansag.org if you are interested.
Until next time
Remain Blessed
Jide.
