MANSAG
has in the past made charitable donations to at
least three organizations that promoted some of the themes of our
previous fund-raising activities. We donated £500 each to The Sickle Cell Society (UK charity based in London),
"Mount Shiloh Health Advisory Centre" (UK charity promoting BME health issues based in the West Midlands) and
"C.O.P.E." (a Nigerian breast cancer charity with eminent citizens as trustees). Last year we donated £5000 to
Stepping Stones.
We also carry out regular medical missions to rural (and sometimes very remote!) parts of Nigeria - helping to provide FREE healthcare to the
local populations. Typically missions provide us the opportunity to assess local health needs, to understand the barriers to healthcare and how any inequities can be addressed,
to work collaboratively with our local counterparts and to share experience and exchange views. We aim for every mission to have an impact on one or all of the tiers of healthcare
Our Annual
General Meetings and Scientific Conferences cover a wide
range of topics and are CPD-approved. Our themes are
carefully chosen so that they address current issues of
healthcare in Nigeria and indeed in Africa. Previous
conferences have discussed issues such as HIV/AIDS,
Women' s Health, Environmental Impact Assessment of Oil
exploration,
Resource allocation and healthcare financing in Nigeria, Mental Health
issues in migrant populations, etc.
We currently maintain an internal database of Nigerian physicians in the
British Isles
with their specialties and locations. We are working
closely with the GMC to update the external database. In
the future MANSAG also plans to publish a journal as
well as a directory. Our monthly newsletter has gone
live from December this year.
