Helping you set long-term career goals and encouraging a focus on achieving your targets in record time is most definitely one of the benefits of membership.

The beautiful city of Plymouth was made even more colourful by the presence of over 100 members of the Medical Association of Nigerian Specialists and General Practitioners, MANSAG,
for its 20th annual scientific conference. The event
took place from Friday October 30th to Sunday
November 1st, at the city?s Holiday Inn which also
happens to be in close proximity to where
negotiations leading to Nigeria?s independence were
finalized in the late 1950s. The theme of this
year?s conference was, ?Health Care Delivery in
Nigeria: Role of Nigerians in Diaspora.?
Another vertical programme by the Federal Government
of Nigeria, this is very aspirational. But whether
or not it would deliver in the end only time can
tell. We have had several of these in our country
over the years that have had varying degrees of
success. Remember the War Against Indiscipline(WAI).
Recall the Better (or was it Bitter?) life for Rural
Women. What about MAMSER? Nigeria is not on target
for reaching her Millenium Development Goals(MDGs).
It would take a lot of political will and a
commitment on the part of those that stride and
straddle the corridors of power for the government
to deliver on this...
Members
of the Association of Nigerian Physicians of the Americas
(ANPA), the Medical Association of Nigerians
across Great Britain(MANSAG) and the Nigerian Medical
Association(NMA) gathered in Abuja in the summer
on a global conference of a scale that has never
before been recorded in the history of Nigeria. A
hugely successful conference it was, and we would be
providing details here soon
So
says Mr Callistus Nwosu, Chairman of the Local
Organising Committee and a founding father of
MANSAG. Preparations are underway for the May Ball
which is already promising to be a real
crowd-puller. Perhaps for the first time in the
association's history the ball is going to also
include an educational session for juniors and
trainees that would cover hot topics across all the
major medical specialisms as well as CV-writing
skills, interview techniques, how to keep the
audience awake, etc. All roads, it would seem, are
leading to Liverpool in the summer. Be there!
The
earthquate in Haiti has been on such a scale that has probably never been seen before. Many members have been so moved by the disaster they have even considered
going out voluntarily to help. This is to be encouraged. Our hearts are with the people of Haiti at these very trying times
and we would continue to help through all the usual
international agencies such as the Red Cross, Unicef,
Oxfam and partner third-sector organisations.
